The current knowledge about the Academia de San Carlos is largely due to his patient and persistent inquiry. This is the first art school that existed in the Americas, and without it it is impossible to understand the development of modern art in Mexico. Since 1971, Dr. Báez has been given the task of reviewing, ordering and paleographing each of the documents that make up the vast historical archive of this site, which is currently part of the UNAM. His deep knowledge of the Institution and its collections, make him the curator by right of drawings, oils, plasters, medals and prints. This work has resulted in the best knowledge of artists and national collections of the national art, Academia de San Carlos and museums, which has been reflected in six books. An example is the four volumes that make up the Guides of the Old Academia de San Carlos.
