• Información localizada: (Ben Shahn; Lithuanian-born American artist; known for painting, illustration, graphic art, photography, writing; he; born in Kaunas, Lithuania, then part of the Russian Empire; in 1906, family immigrated to United States, settled in Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, New York; first trained as a lithographer in New York, graphic design; later prints and paintings often include combination of text and image; pursued art at City College in 1921, then at National Academy of Design; in May-June 1933, served as an assistant to Diego Rivera while Rivera executed the Rockefeller Center mural; during Great Depression, member of photographic group at the Resettlement Administration (RA) and successor, Farm Security Administration; roamed and documented the American South together with his colleagues Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange, in social-documentary photography; also worked for RA and FSA as graphic artist and painter, including fresco murals; during World War II, paintings reflecting his anti-war sentiment; in 1947, directed a summer session of School of the Museum of Fine Arts at Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield, Massachusetts;1961-1967, worked on the stained glass at Temple Beth Zion, Buffalo, NY; commercial artist for CBS, Time, Fortune, and Harper's; joined Harvard as a Charles Eliot Norton professor in 1956; published writings on art; social-realist vision; died in New York City)
