Alice Ann Munro (née Laidlaw) is a Canadian short-story writer and three-time winner of Canada's Governor General Award for English-language fiction. She was born 10 July 1931 in Wingham, Ontario. Married to James Munro in 1951, Alice Munro lived in Vancouver and Victoria, B.C. until her divorce in 1972, when she returned to Ontario to accept the position as Writer-in-Residence at University of Western Ontario. In 1980, Munro held the position of Writer-in-Residence at both University of British Columbia and University of Queensland. She currently lives in Clinton, Ontario.
