Mecherry, Antony. Testing ground for Jesuit accommodation in early modern India: Francisco Ros SJ in Malabar (16th-17th centuries), 2019: title page (Francisco Ros SJ) page xi (Archbishop Francisco Ros (1559-1624), a Jesuit missionary from Catalonia who arrived in India in 1584 at the age of 25) pages 89-90 (Francisco Ros, of the Jesuit province of Aragón in Spain; he came from the old city of Gerona and spoke Catalan. He was born in 1559; the birth year of 1557, found in many reference sources, is an error. Archival documents consulted by Fr. Mecherry record that Ros was 16 when he entered the Jesuit order on May 26, 1575; that he was 35 years old when he took his final vows in 1594; and that he was 40 years old in 1599; all these records indicate a birth year of 1559) page 92 (Ros landed in Cochin, India, at the end of 1584) page 198 (Pope Clement VIII named Ros as the first Latin bishop of Angamaly on November 5, 1599) page 338 (Ros died February 18, 1624; probable place of death was Cranganore (now Kodungallūr, India), although an epitaph for Ros was found in the church at Paravur-Kottakkavu)
