Revised ed. of "Memoir of an eventful expedition ... New York, 1850," purporting to be taken from the journal kept by Velasquez while on the expedition said to have resulted in the finding of the two "Aztec children."
The "Aztec children" were actually dwarves, born near San Miguel in El Salvador. The fabrication was promoted in the U.S. and Europe. Cf. Clegg, E.J. Book review in Man, 1969, p. 296, of Dos microcefalos "Aztecas," by J. Comas.
