520			_aArt and gastronomy were the two passions of Eugenio Barney Cabrera (b. Santander de Quilichao, 1917 - d. Bogota 1980), who dedicated his life to the research and study of the particularities of Colombian art, analyzing the aesthetic expressions developed in the country from colonial times to the 1980's. A consummated academic and art critic he also wrote for the local newspapers and magazines and was a professor all his life of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia as Director of School of Fine Arts. This anthology comprises articles and manuscripts of his intellectual production from 1954 to 1974, and was compiled in order to rescue the foundational nature of his contributions and his important role in the consolidation of the artistic and cultural history in Colombia. "Thus the intellectual situation of Eugenio Barney Cabrera in the Colombian intellectual and artistic tradition is paradoxical. While his work continues to flourish in the works of several of the most prominent scholars of art of Colombia, and in research developed by novice art historians, his figure has maintained permanent leak to the verge of disappearance. We hope that the publication of this text can be an opportunity to critically collect his legacy and underpin the processes of consolidation of a much-needed intellectual tradition in our academic and cultural life."
